Why Sydney is hard on car paint
Sydney is known for sun, surf and city – and not always in that order. It means our city’s conditions can be tough on car paint, particularly when a car spends most of its time outside.
Strong UV exposure can fade paint and break down clear coat, especially on horizontal panels such as the roof, bonnet and boot lid.
If you park near the coast or eastern beaches, salt air can add to the problem, particularly where the paint is already damaged.
Then there are trees, with street parking bringing regular exposure to sap and bird droppings. And if you spend a lot of time on Sydney’s motorways, stone chips are almost impossible to avoid.
For many Sydney drivers, it’s a combination of these things rather than one big event that gradually takes a toll on the paint.
Small damage can become a bigger repair
A stone chip might not look like much, but if it breaks through the paint, moisture can reach the metal underneath. Over time, that can turn a small paint repair into a rust repair.
Clear coat can cause a similar problem. A dull or chalky patch can be an early sign that the clear coat is failing. If it starts to peel, polishing won’t bring the clear coat back. The affected area needs to be repainted.
That doesn’t mean every mark needs to be repaired immediately. It’s simply worth finding out what you’re dealing with before leaving it for months or years.

Where mobile paint repair fits
Mobile paint repair is well suited to smaller areas of damage, including stone chips, scratches, scuffs and paint transfer.
Larger areas of failing clear coat, or rust that has gone beyond the surface, may need a closer look. A few photos are usually enough for us to give you an idea of whether the damage is suitable for mobile repair.
The photo assessment is free, so there’s no need to guess or commit to a repair before you know what’s involved.
Who actually books this?
It’s the person who has just noticed the roof of their black hatch has gone patchy after a few summers of street parking.
Or the driver with a bonnet full of motorway chips who has finally had enough of looking at them.
They’re both common reasons people get in touch for car paint repair.
