Mobile Scratch Repair – When is it too deep?

Scratching your car can be easier than you think. It can be because of any number of life’s mishaps, ranging from pulling over to the side of the road, parking your car at the wrong spot, driving along a gravel road or even getting caught on a day of bad weather.

And while at a minimum it’s enough to ruin your day, those ugly marks could be the start of a serious problem, that could be prevented with a mobile scratch repair.

This is because a scratch can lead to moisture ingress or rust, turning what was a minor inconvenience into a far more serious issue. And when it comes time to sell your car, scratches and other damage can also greatly reduce the value of a vehicle.

How big a problem can this be? It depends very much on the type of damage you have: where the scratch is located, how large it is and how deep it goes.

This can also impact what type of repair is best for you and how much it will cost. In most instances, a mobile repairer can complete the job – and will even come to you. But in rare instances this might not be possible.

Here is a run down of what a mobile scratch repair is, common scratches and what type of damage we’re able to address.

What is a mobile scratch repair?

A mobile scratch repair is a service that fixes your vehicle wherever you would like it to be fixed. This could be at your home or work, making it more convenient for you to go about your day.

In most cases, a mobile repairer will be able to fix the scratches in your pride and joy. But it will depend on the type of scratch.

What types of scratches will be fixed during a mobile scratch repair?

Let’s start out with the different types of scratches.

There are, in fact, four different grades depending on how deep into the paint the scratch goes.

  1. Stone chips: These are small, deep, and localised, caused by debris flying and hitting your vehicle at high speeds. These are generally more minor than other forms of scratches.
  2. Scuffs and clear coat scratches:These scratches often occur during everyday driving through rocks and debris hitting the top layer of the paint.
  3. Primer scratches:These go a little deeper than other scratches and reach the primer level but the metal underneath is not exposed.
  4. Deep paint scratches:These are the deepest scratches with the metal being exposed through the paint.

When is it too deep for a mobile scratch repair?

When it comes to scratches on your car and a mobile repair location and severity of scratch is everything.

In most instances, if it is a stone chip, scuff and clear coat scratch, primer scratch or even a deep scratch a mobile repairer can get the job done.

However, there’s a caveat based on where it is.

If it’s a deep scratch on the bonnet or roof, it can be a problem when repairing.
